New Jersey Cannabis License Types Available
There are several license types available in New Jersey because of the emerging recreational cannabis market. New Jersey is currently accepting license applications for cultivators, manufacturers, retailers, and laboratories. However, on September 27, 2023 New Jersey will begin accepting applications for wholesalers, distributors, and delivery servicers.
Cultivators, manufacturers, retailers, and laboratories are all common license types in the cannabis industry. Therefore, what are the wholesalers, distributors, and deliver servicers role in the industry? A wholesaler is a business that stores, buys, or sells bulk cannabis and cannabis products. A distributor is a business that transports cannabis and cannabis products from one cannabis business to another. Lastly, a delivery servicer is a business that transports cannabis and cannabis products from the cannabis retail store to an individual consumer.
New Jersey Cannabis License Requirements
Regardless of the license type, there are requirements to apply for a cannabis license in New Jersey. First, the department will ask for all owners to be at least 21 years of age, and pass a background check. Additionally, the department will require applicable business entity information. This information will include proof of compliance with local and municipal planning and zoning rules. Most importantly, the department will require standard operating procedures, and business plans that comply with the regulations.
Lastly, the Department will require a fee be submitted in addition to the clerical information they will request. Each license type has a different fee. The fee ranges from $3,000 to 30,000 for standard businesses. However, microbusiness fees are $1,000 because they are required to stay small.
