Maryland recently began selling recreational cannabis to adults 21 years of age or older. However, with the increase in the cannabis industry’s consumers, Maryland will begin offering additional cannabis licenses to meet the current demand. We will discuss what is takes to apply for a Maryland Cannabis License below.
Maryland Cannabis License Types
The Maryland Cannabis Administration will be accepting cultivation, dispensary, and processing license type applications. Additionally, each business type will be classified as a micro-license or a standard license. Micro licenses are intended for smaller businesses, and the amount of cannabis a business can grow or process is limited under law. Another important difference between the standard and the micro license is the cost to apply. The cost of a standard license application is $5,000. On the contrary, the micro-license application cost is $1,000.
Maryland Cannabis License Requirements
Although the specific requirements to apply for an license is not yet published, the administration has announced general requirements to apply.
To begin, applicants must qualify as a social equity applicant. Similar to other states, Maryland social equity guidelines consist of living in an area or attending a public school disproportionally impacted for 5 of the past 10 years, OR attending a university where at least 40% of the individuals attending are or were eligible for a Pell grant.
In addition to being a social equity applicant, Maryland is requiring an operational plan, business plan, and a diversity plan. These plans should accompany any relevant business information requested by the Administration.
We have the following Maryland specific SOP’s to accompany your application:
